The 6th Shaastra Rapid FIDE Rating Open tournament, to be held at IIT Madras in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on the 30th and 31st of March 2024, promises an exciting opportunity for chess enthusiasts. With a generous prize fund of ₹500,000, including a first prize of ₹65,000, the event invites participants from all skill levels to compete in a spirited atmosphere on the renowned campus of the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras. Organized as part of Shaastra, the esteemed Technical Festival of IIT Madras, this tournament exemplifies the spirit of engineering excellence and innovation. Featuring nine rounds with a time control of 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment from move no.1, the tournament adheres to strict rules and regulations overseen by Chief Arbiter IA R Anantharam. Entry is free for Grandmasters, International Masters, Women Grandmasters, and Women International Masters, with accommodation provided. For other rated and unrated players, the entry fee is ₹2300, with discounts available for IIT Madras students, faculty, and staff members. The last date for registration is 27th March 2024, with no spot registrations entertained.
